ABOUT BOOTHS

Booths is a family-owned premium supermarket chain in the North of England, known for championing quality products, local suppliers, and excellent customer service. With over 175 years of heritage, the company combines tradition with a modern approach to fresh food production. As part of a wider renewal programme, Booths began evaluating new tray-sealing solutions to replace ageing equipment and support evolving operational needs.

THE CHALLENGE

Booths needed to replace older tray-sealing units that were no longer meeting the demands of a busy retail environment. Their teams required a solution that delivered greater efficiency, simplified daily operations, and ensured faster tool changeovers, alongside a supplier capable of providing reliable service support across multiple sites.

“Following continued investment across our manufacturing sites, the first CIGNO® was installed at the start of 2024. Its reliability and efficiency quickly proved its value, making the decision to replace further older equipment an easy one.

We now have additional units supporting our produce and meat facilities, and we’re delighted with their performance.

It’s clear we made the right choice.”

CHOOSING THE CIGNO®

During the Cigno Roadshow, the G.Mondini UK team demonstrated the machine directly inside Booths’ production sites, where its compact design, efficiency, and fast tool changeovers immediately proved ideal for their retail manufacturing needs. With experience using other suppliers, the trial made the decision straightforward: the combination of strong service support, ease of operation, and exceptional changeover speed positioned CIGNO® as the right solution for multiple sites.

INSTALLATION & ONBOARDING

The first CIGNO® unit was installed at the beginning of 2024. Thanks to its plug-and-play design, installation was straightforward and commissioning ran smoothly. Within just 24 hours, Booths' team was confidently running the line independently.

Following the successful launch of the first machine, Booths expanded its adoption of CIGNO® across additional produce and meat facilities. The consistent performance across sites reinforced their confidence in the investment.

MEASURABLE RESULTS

Booths achieved immediate and significant improvements after integrating CIGNO® into their production lines.
Tool changeovers were reduced from 6 minutes down to just 2 minutes, enabling faster product transitions and smoother daily operations.
Production speeds also increased, reaching 30 ppm on gas-flush products, delivering the level of efficiency required across busy retail manufacturing sites.
